Hundreds gather for funeral of Nicola Furlong in Wexford

The 21-year-old student who was found dead in a Tokyo hotel room two weeks ago was laid to rest in her hometown of Curracloe today.

THE FUNERAL MASS of Nicola Furlong, the Wexford woman who was found dead in Tokyo a fortnight ago, has taken place in Wexford today.

RTÉ reports that hundreds of mourners gathered for the funeral mass in the town of Curracloe in Co Wexford where the 21-year-0ld DCU student was laid to rest.

Furlong’s parents Andrew and Angie along with her sisters Andrea and Hannah led mourners at the mass in St Margaret’s Church this afternoon before she was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Furlong was found dead at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo on Thursday 24 May.

She had been studying Business and Japanese at DCU and as part of her course had been in Japan for a year at the Takasaki City University of Economics in Tokyo.

A post mortem examination indicated that she may have been strangled.

Two American men, an unidentified 19-year-old and 23-year-old dancer James Blackston, are being held by police in connection with the death.

They have already been charged with indecent assault on Nicola’s 21-year-old friend, according to reports in Japan.
