Ian Watkins sentenced to 35 years in prison for child sex abuse

Two mothers who also plead guilty to charges relating to Watkins abuse and attempted abuse of their children, have been sentenced to 14 years and 17 years in prison.

IAN WATKINS HAS been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a string of child sexual offences including the attempted rape of a baby.

The final six years of the term will be spent on temporary licence with Watkins serving at least two-thirds of his sentence according to WalesOnline who were at Cardiff Crown Court this afternoon.

Two mothers who also plead guilty to charges relating to Watkins abuse and attempted abuse of their children, have been sentenced to 14 years and 17 years in prison.

Watkins, the former lead singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, was arrested last December and charged with more than 20 offences, including the attempted rape of a baby, conspiring to sexually assault a child and making indecent images.

The 36-year-old had denied the charges but changed his plea and admitted 11 offences, including sexually touching a one-year-old, encouraging a groupie to abuse her child and making child pornography.

Sentencing Watkins, Judge Royce told him:

You are a sexual predator. You are dangerous. The public, and in particular young females and children, need protection from you.

Much of the attention will now switch to the police investigation of Watkins. Channel 4 news last night broadcast an interview with a former lover of Watkins who claimed that she went to four different police forces, eight times over the course of two years telling them of Watkins paedophelia.
