Laura Whitmore and Simon Delaney hosting last year's ceremony. RTE

Poll: Do we need the IFTAs?

The Oscar nominations are out today, but what’s happening with Ireland’s ceremony? No-one seems to know.

THERE’S A QUESTION mark over the future of the IFTA film and TV awards, after the head of the Irish Film Board said yesterday that the body had not yet made any decision on funding for the ceremony this year.

It follows RTÉ’s decision not to show the awards, after last year’s shambolic ceremony was branded “embarrassing” by viewers.

However, the CEO of IFTA is insisting negotiations are still taking place with a “new broadcasting partner”.

What do you think of the ceremony?

Poll Results:

After last year, it should be put to bed for good. (3272)
No interest/no opinion. (3026)
I'd like to see it back, in a new format. (1552)
What's the problem? I always watch. (128)
