In full: what former ministers get after the government's new levy

We’ve gone through the list of ministerial pensions to see precisely how each living former minister is hit by the various levies.

Updated, 10.47

BRENDAN HOWLIN last night announced plans to place a new levy on public pensions over €100,000 – putting an extra levy of 20 per cent on any payments above the €100,000 threshold.

While the levy applies to all former public employees, we thought it may be interesting for readers to return to the list of former ministers and their pensions, and see precisely how much those pensions are cut as a result of the various public levies now in place.

‘Gross pension’ refers to the ministerial pension due to each person concerned; the ‘new net’ refers to this amount, less the measures introduced under the last two governments.

All gross figures sourced from parliamentary questions earlier this month. Former ministers Liam Cosgrave and Liam Aylward have been omitted, as they are gifting their pensions back to the Exchequer.

It is understood that President Michael D Higgins has since initiated a similar gifting process.
