In pictures: Flash flooding hits around the country

Heavy rainfall last night has led to flooding around the country, with Cork city and county the worst affected area.

FLOODING HAS AFFECTED areas around the country overnight, with rivers bursting their banks following heavy rainfall.

TheJournal.ie readers have sent us in photographs of the flooding in their local area, which show the extent of the flooding. The worst-affected area so far is Cork city, with Douglas Village suffering from heavy flooding.

Flooding has also been reported in Westmeath, Wicklow, Tipperary, Waterford, Galway and Belfast.

According to Newstalk, Met Eireann said that 46mm of rain fell in Cork overnight.
