Gardaí say fire at Cork restaurant started in suspicious circumstances

Six teams from the fire brigade tackled the blaze on 8 June.

GARDAÍ SAY A fire at a Cork restaurant was started in suspicious circumstances.

They are appealing for information following the blaze, which broke out at N Square Steakhouse and Seafood Restaurant on 8 June 2016.

At approximately 5.30am, gardaí and fire services attended the scene of a fire at N Square.

Six teams from Cork City Fire Brigade were needed to tackle the fire, which had engulfed the restaurant.

Approximately 100 people had to leave their homes in overhead and neighbouring apartments.

“The fire was brought under control and no one [was] injured during the incident,” said gardaí.

However, results of a detailed forensic and technical examination sent to investigating gardaí have now confirmed the fire started in suspicious circumstances.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who was in the area of Camden St or Pine St during the early hours of Wednesday 8 June to contact them.

They are particularly appealing for footage or images recorded at the scene on mobile phones or other devices.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Watercourse Road Garda Station on 021 4558260 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
