Man arrested in Kildare dissident republican murder investigation

Larry Keane, 56, was found close to his home in Athy on Thursday night. A murder investigation was launched by gardaí on Saturday.

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE murder of a man in Athy last Thursday have arrested a 47-year-old man.

The man was arrested in the Athy area at 7am today as part of the inquiry into the death of 56-year-old Larry Keane, a dissident republican who was found seriously injured close to his home on Thursday night. He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he died soon afterwards.

Gardaí upgraded the investigation to a murder inquiry on Saturday following a post-mortem examination on the victim.

The arrested man is currently being questioned at Kildare Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Gardaí have appealed to the public for any witnesses or anyone with information about the killing to contact them.
