Iran to start eliminating nuclear materials from 20 January
Barack Obama says he is under “no illusions” about how difficult the deal will be to implement.
THE WHITE HOUSE today confirmed that a nuclear agreement with Iran will take effect from 20 January, but US President Barack Obama said he was under “no illusions” how hard it would be reach a comprehensive resolution.
“Beginning 20 January, Iran will for the first time start eliminating its stockpile of higher levels of enriched uranium and dismantling some of the infrastructure that makes such enrichment possible,” a statement from the White House said.
Tehran earlier gave the same start date for the landmark agreement that the Islamic republic clinched with world powers.

Under the deal reached in November, Iran agreed to curb parts of its nuclear drive for six months in exchange for receiving modest relief from international sanctions and a promise by Western powers not to impose new measures against its hard-hit economy.
Western nations and Israel have long accused Iran of pursuing a nuclear weapons capability alongside its civilian program, charges denied by Tehran.
Obama added in the White House statement: “With today’s agreement, we have made concrete progress. I welcome this important step forward, and we will now focus on the critical work of pursuing a comprehensive resolution that addresses our concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.
“I have no illusions about how hard it will be to achieve this objective, but for the sake of our national security and the peace and security of the world, now is the time to give diplomacy a chance to succeed.”
Iran didn’t kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians with the dropping if two nuclear bombs purely to test them out as peace was a certainty before they were dropped.
Iran doesn’t drop deleted uranium all over the place.
The dropped the nukes to end the war and it worked they also know full well the devastation it caused. You can’t let radical Islamist have access to nuclear weapons or anyone they deem “infidels” becomes a target. Wise Up.
Iranians are not radical, most of Iran are Shiite, which is a different sect of Islam then the Sunni. Shiite is a lot more moderate ie they don’t blow themselves up in the name of Islam. Plus they’ve never been the aggressor in any war they’ve fought, they’ve always been attacked first. Look how many wars the US has started since the Second World War, now tell me who are the bad guys ?
The Muslims every time or have you forgotten 9/11, 7/7, Madrid, Jakarta I could go on for days naming instances where nutjob Muslims have slaughtered innocents in the name of Allah and you think it’s safer for an Islamic theocracy to have the keys to nuclear weapon than it is for United States?
Read what I wrote, they are Shiite and not Sunni fundamentalists. They DONT blow themselves up in the name if Allah like Sunnis do. Have fun living in your own little world.
brilliant how the hell do you figure that one out? if you look at whats going on you will see that its wherever they are weaving baskets and there are starving kids is exactly where the yanks are slaughtering people, just like Vietnam. why do the yanks arm Al queeda factions that are attacking the Syrian army ? they must really hate them!
Spot on Mark we have a seriously ungrateful shower in this country. I can’t for the life of me remember the last time an Iranian company set up in Ireland employing thousands of Irish people.
SEAN MURRAY .FIRST OF ALL IT’S SHIA NOT SHIITE OR SHITE. AND ITS NOT KORAN ITS THE QURAN FOR ANYONE WHO DOESNT KNOW AND SECOND OF ALL YOU THINK CHRISTION AND CATHOLICS ARE ANY BETTER ONE LAD I KNEW WAS KILLED OVER A HAMDBAG ONE YESTERDAY OVER A CHESS GAME NO U DID NOT KNOW HIM BUT PEOPLE MURDERING THEIR OWN. AMERICA NEEDED MONEY TOOK DOWN THEIR OWN TWIN TOWERS FOR MORE MONEY OR ALLAH ONLY KNOWS WHAT AMERICA HAVE TAKING THE URANIAM AND WILL MAKE WEAPONS OR WHATEVER BECAUSE TO PEOPLE THEY ARE SAINTS (NOTTTT). I HATE OBAMA AND ALL THE OTHERS EXCPET JFK MAY HE R .I.P AND ALSO ISREAL OWN AMERICA SO THEY CANT DO NOTHING TO THEM THATS WHY. QUESTIONS ASKED ANSWERS GIVING. YOUR OPINIONS MEAN CRAP TO ME. MUSLIM SHIA DO NO HARM ITS ALL THE SUNNI. YES IRAN IS ISLAMIC BUT NKT TO TH EXTENT TO START WITHOUT A COUNTRY GIVING A REASON FIRST. THAT IS ALL
Not relevant. We all know Israel has nuclear weapons but has shown it is not irresponsible enough to use them. Maybe sometime in the future all nuclear weapons will be dismantled including Israel’s but it’s not required now.
really why wait. They have been attacked by all their neighbours. If they are as hellbent on war as you say why did they not nuke the opposition already.
Mjhint
I usually take what’s said to me as yea whatever
But I don’t want your pro Zionist opinion you are intitled to it but to be honest you can stick it
yes very relevant, first off israel hasnt even had the honesty to admit to having them, second of all how has iran proven its likely to use them ?? it hasnt invaded a country or started a war in hundreds of years unlike israel and tell em this do you consider iran to be an extremist religious country and under the thum of the grand ayatollah ??
far from pro Zionist. Im horrified by some of the actions taken against the Palestinians by Israel but unlike you I’m prepared to understand that the destruction of Israel is not the answer. It’s all complex maybe too complex for you. I take it you agree with Hezbollah & Hamas as your anti Semitic tone shows your true colours. Read some books about it.Ask the people that have been there especially those that are neutral & impartial. I reserve the right to look at All sides & take the view that both sides are right & wrong. Hamas & Hezbollah &their likes are not going to get carte Blanche from me because they are a disgusting group that carries the mushroom cloud on their flags.
where are you going with all these assumptions ???? i never said you were zionist or anything else,so dont presume anything of me either and how dare you suggest it’s too complex for me because i asked you questions that you were not able answer,if you want to debate then fine, try answer the points i raised and stop going off on a rant you clearly only have tes same generic answers ready anyway seen as i never even hinted at anything anti-semitic and your use of that word alone proves to me you dont even understand the word semite,so go ahead and shock me by actually discussing the topic
The usual pro israeli bullshit, criticize them for their illegal, immoral, inhuman brutality and you are branded an anti semite. Whether jew or gentile, right is right and wrong is wrong.
Mjhint
Can you clear up three things for me
1 when did I say I wanted the destruction of Israel
2 how am I anti Semitic , I actually find that one very funny
3 do you know the difference between a Zionist and Judaism
yes Gerard I consider Iran being a country controlled by extremist & it’s promoting Islamic extremist around the region. I do however accept that Iran has a very young population which is looking for change but that has not come because of extreme religious views held by the leaders of the country. To answer the question about the fact that Iran has not started a war. Do you want to take that risk with nuclear weapons. Would you like to see one detonated in tel Aviv or even a western city. I’m not saying this will happen but listen to these countries leaders views on the world Israel & their views on the wests morality & for me it’s enough to understand that they welcome Armageddon if it comes. From what I have read & heard they would love to be the first to use wmds against Israel.
The use of wmds is completely against the teachings of the koran. For someone who is branding people as antisemites, you are not very knowledgeable or tolerant of other religions. And nobody here is arguing that iran should have nukes, nobody should have them. The power to destroy the earth in minutes is not something any nation should have.
ok so you accept theyare a theocracy and controlled by the religious leaders, now these said religious leaders have issued a holy proclamation stating that nuclear weapons are against god,can you explain that to me ?? you cant have it every way, they cant be irrational religious fanatics when its suits you and then at the very same time capable of just completely ignoring their religion when it suits your argument, which is it ???
I’m assuming you understand Islam &how it works. Unlike Christian faiths it has no central power. Recently Islamic leaders made a decision to let hungry Muslims in Syria eat dogs & other domestic animals & rodents even though it’s against Islamic law. So as we see these Islamic leader can change the rules to suit themselves & because of a lack of central command it will not be opposed. Islam is schizophrenic it cannot be trusted.
i think its you that doesnt understand, first off shiite is completely different than sunni and has a relatively central structure,in shiite islam people usually pick an ayatollah to personally follow and to follow his instructions and teachings, then there is the grand ayatollah who has the final say and is similar to the pope,so yeah the grand ayatollah would be able directly influence shiite muslims and most certainly the ones under his command who control the nuclear program, its not some fishmonger in qoms who is going to make a nuclear bomb without permisson so tbh you are talking pure scutter, also in syria you dont say if its sunni or shiite and if its shiite its most likely alawite sect which has nothing to do with iran theologically and if it is and did then you jsut prove my point by them following what they were told to do,its you who is schizophrenic, ive enough of you know enjoy the rest of your day
Without nukes the super powers would be at war with each other again. They are necessary evil to keep the peace. Plus nukes are progress which are what humans strive for. The sooner the star wars program is back up and running the better for all.
It’s obvious no one posting comments here has no idea what their talking about when they keep on talking about Israel v Iran. The big issue is Saudi, they hate Iran and are extremely peed off that the US of A are talking peace with them. That’s where any potential trouble will come from!
