The Navy and Army looking for 900 recruits

Minister Shatter made the announcement this afternoon.

A NEW RECRUITMENT campaign for the Defence Forces was announced today by the Justice Minister, Alan Shatter.

A total of up to 900 personnel are to be taken on this year.

The Defence Forces plan to take on 400 personnel to the Permanent Defence Force, while up to 500 will be taken on by the Reserve Defence Force.

Minister Shatter made the announcement in Waterford this afternoon.

In a speech at City Hall, he said,

With the changes in the make-up of Ireland’s population, it is important that we raise awareness and attract recruits from all backgrounds, including the new Irish, so that our Defence Forces, both Permanent and Reserve, reflect the society that they serve.
