Person struck by train between Portarlington and Portlaoise

There are significant delays as a result.

A PERSON HAS been struck by a train on the line between Portarlington and Portlaoise, Irish Rail has said.

It has warned of “significant delays” due to the incident. Emergency services are attending the scene.

The latest update from Irish Rail says:

Irish Rail said that delays can be expected to the Intercity services to and from Heuston.

Gardaí said it is believed the incident was a personal tragedy.

The service also said that with the exception of minor delays, Galway, Westport and Waterford services shouldn’t be disrupted by the incident

There will be buses at Portarlington to shuttle people to and from Portlaoise. When the 5pm Dublin/Cork customers are on buses, the 5.05pm Dublin/Tralee train will get to the platform.

Irish Rail also said that Dublin to Galway/Westport/Waterford trains are continuing.

Meanwhile, Dublin/Portlaoise commuter trains are running to and from Kildare only.
