THE IRISHMAN WHO died after allegedly injuring three people in a stabbing spree in Germany has been named as Enda McLoughlin from Donegal.

McLoughlin was found with Irish prison documentation after the incident and is understood to have been released from Castlerea prison in April. The 27-year-old from Carndonagh also had a number of other previous convictions for which he was imprisoned.

The incident occurred yesterday in the German cities of Aachen and Düren.

The three stabbings took place over the course of two separate taxi journeys, before McLoughlin died after being hit by a car.

Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger and RP Online report that the man hailed a taxi from Heerlan in Netherlands across the border to Germany, and stabbed the driver upon arrival.

McLoughlin then fled the scene, stabbing another man before hailing a separate taxi to Cologne.

However, en route the driver received a warning over radio in German that the previous taxi driver had been stabbed.

McLoughlin asked for the taxi to stop briefly at a hotel, after which the car sped off.

He then attacked an Estonian truck driver, seriously injuring him.

Soon afterwards, he was killed instantly after being hit by a car driven by an English couple.

The three victims were treated for their injuries in hospital. The truck driver was in a critical condition.

Gardaí said that they were informed through Interpol of the death of an Irish national on Monday in Germany.

McLoughlin’s family have been informed and assistance has been offered through the Department of Foreign Affairs but that family have not yet made a requested for it.
