Gardaí continue to question man over Dundalk death

Jacqueline McDonagh’s body was found at her home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

GARDAÍ IN LOUTH are continuing to question a man in his mid-30s in connection with the death of mother-of-three Jacqueline McDonagh in Dundalk on Wednesday.

The man was arrested in the Dublin area yesterday evening and is being held at Dundalk Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984. RTÉ is reporting that a decision will be made later today on whether to charge or release him. His period of detention was extended last night after hours of questioning.

The victim’s body was discovered at about 3am on Wednesday at her home in College Manor at Hoey’s Lane in the town. A post mortem has been carried out on her remains and Gardaí say they are investigating “all circumstances” surrounding her death.

Although autopsy results have not been released, it is understood that the 34-year-old was beaten to death.

McDonagh was well-known in the area as she was married to bare-knuckle fighter Michael Quinn McDonagh, who featured in the critically-acclaimed film Knuckle last year.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to contact Dundalk gardaí on 042 933 5577.
