Joan Burton's car blocked by protesters at same-sex marriage event

The protesters were removed by gardaí after they lay down in front of the car.

JOAN BURTON’S MINISTERIAL car was briefly blocked by protesters as she left an event in north Dublin last night.

A group of anti-water charge protesters lay down in front of the Tánaiste’s car as she attempted to leave a public meeting which called for a Yes vote in the same-sex marriage referendum.

There was a heavy garda presence at the event, which took place at the Regency Hotel on the Swords Road in Drumcondra.

Footage captured from the hotel grounds shows gardaí removing some of the protesters from the area surrounding the car – which then left the scene.

The video was circulated by water protest groups afterwards on social media.
