THE SEARCH IS ongoing for missing 50-year-old John Gear from Waterford.

He was last seen early Wednesday morning, 15 January, in the Knockboy area of Waterford and was reported missing later that evening.

John is described as being 5′ 5″ in height, of medium/stocky build with grey well kept hair. He was last seen wearing a navy ‘Waterford County Council’ bomber jacket and blue denim jeans.

A spokesperson from the Coast Guard said they are continuing to search for John Gear in the Brownstown Head and Tramore areas.

A lot of members of the public are involved, as are Coast Guard units from Tramore and Dunmore East, the lifeboat from Tramore community rescue, and a Coast Guard helicopter.

They are also assisted by Mallow search and rescue and Waterford marine search and rescue.

John Gear drove a 08 WD-registered silver Toyota Auris hatchback. Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have observed this vehicle being driven in the Waterford City, Tramore, Dunmore East areas on Monday or Tuesday of last week to contact them.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Waterford on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any garda station.
