Syria fighter Joshua Molloy has been released and is coming home to Ireland

The 24-year-old has been held in Iraq for over a week.

THE IRISH MAN that has been held for over a week in Iraq has now been released.

Joshua Molloy was arrested by Kurdish authorities on 15 April after crossing the Syrian border.

The 24-year-old Laois man had been in Syria since October after travelling to the war torn country to fight against the so-called Islamic State.

Since last week, efforts have been underway to secure his release and the Department of Foreign Affairs has now confirmed that he has been freed.
