RAPPER KANYE WEST has visited US President-elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York.

The pair also posed for photographs in the lobby of the Manhattan building.

When asked by reporters what the pair had talked about, Trump replied: “Life. We discussed life.”

He also said that the pair had been “friends for a long time” and he called West a “good man”.

West, who has previously talked about potentially running for the presidency, was asked a number of questions by reporters but stood silently beside Trump.

“I just want to take a picture right now,” he said.

The two did not answer questions on whether West would perform at Trump’s inauguration in January. There have been suggestions in the media that Trump’s team were having difficulty securing an act for the event.

Before the two went their separate ways and Trump walked towards the elevator, he said to West: “So long man, you take care I’ll see you soon.”

CNN reports that a member of Trump’s transition team has said that the meeting came about following a request by West.

Last month during a concert in San Jose, California, West said he didn’t vote for president, but if he had, he would have cast a ballot for Trump.

He also praised the president-elect’s “method of communication” as “very futuristic”.

A couple of days after that incident, West was hospitalised and cancelled the remainder of his US tour.

The official comment from West’s representative team was that the rapper was hospitalised for “exhaustion” but it was widely reported that the 39-year-old was suffering from mental health issues.

West’s appearance at Trump Tower comes within hours after the President-elect confirmed that he had chosen Exxon Mobil’s oil chief Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State.

The choice of Tillerson is likely to be the subject of intensive scrutiny because of his close business ties to Russia.

In 2013, Tillerson was awarded Russia’s Order of Friendship by Vladimir Putin following several years of Exxon projects in the country.
