Katie Hopkins under fire for calling migrants "cockroaches"

She also advocated turning gunships on migrants trying to cross the UK border.

UK CELBRITY AND columnist Katie Hopkins is no stranger to huge controversy. She has very strong opinions on almost everything, and is well used to causing a ruckus.

But with her latest column, some are suggesting that she’s gone too far, after she compared migrants to cockroaches.

Her piece in yesterday’s Sun newspaper is titled:

Rescue boats? I’d use gunships to stop migrants

She writes about the issues of migrants smuggling themselves across the UK border, saying she feels pity for British drivers who are fined “every time one of this plague of feral humans ends up in their truck”.

She advocates “going Australian” on the issue, saying:

They threaten them with violence until they bugger off, throwing cans of Castlemaine in as an Aussie version of sharia stoning. And their approach is working.

“We don’t need another rescue project,” said Hopkins.

What we need are gunships sending these boats back to their own country. You want to make a better life for yourself? Then you had better get creative in North Africa.

“Some of our towns are festering sores,” continued Hopkins, “plagued by swarms of migrants and asylum seekers, shelling out benefits like Monopoly money.”

She also compares migrants to “cockroaches”, and suggests burning the boats they tried to travel on.

The reaction

Hopkins’ comments have been garnering a huge and overwhelmingly negative response online:

But she also has many supporters:

She is very active on Twitter, and has been retweeting criticism of the column.

She also said:

Hopkins has been accused of inciting hatred and violence against migrants, while others have pointed out that she’s adept at creating controversy:

The Sun has not commented on Hopkins’ column so far.
