Kenny rejects three-way debate suggestion

Enda Kenny has rejected the invitation of a debate between Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Labour, saying that other political parties must also be included.

THE LEADER OF Fine Gael Enda Kenny has ruled out a three-way debate with Fianna Fáil and the Labour Party, saying that he did not wish to exclude other political leaders from a televised debate.

Kenny said that he would be “quite happy” to engage in a five-way leaders’ debate in English or Irish, but said that Fianna Fáil’s new leader Micheál Martin was not in a position to decide about the format of any such discussions, RTÉ reports.

Upon being elected as FF party leader last night, Martin invited Kenny and Labour Party leader Eamon Gilmore to a series at least five debates, including two three-way discussions, a number of one-on-ones, and a separate debate in the Irish language.
