Kinahan cartel member's girlfriend arrested after gardaí seize loaded revolver in Dublin

A woman in her late 30s is currently being questioned.

Updated: 13.30

THE PARTNER OF a senior member of the Kinahan cartel was arrested yesterday after elite officers raided a premises in Ringsend in the capital.

During the search, armed gardaí discovered a small quantity of heroin as well as a loaded revolver at the location in the capital.

She was arrested and brought to Store Street garda station where she is currently being questioned.

A garda spokesman confirmed that a search was carried out and that a woman in her late 30s had been arrested.

He said: “Gardaí searched a house in Ringsend at about 2.45pm and during the course of the operation discovered a revolver and a quantity of heroin with a street value €4,500.”

The arrest, according to security sources, is just another example of the cartel using their partners and family members to stash drugs and weaponry.

There has been a major crackdown in who the gang can trust in the wake of a number of high profile drug and gun seizures.

Tens of millions worth of drugs and guns have been seized by authorities in Ireland since the start of the year, severely denting the Kinahan’s profits.

Using family members to stash contraband is nothing new. The sister of a leading member of the cartel was arrested last year by the Criminal Assets Bureau. They were investigating whether the leading member had gifted his sister assets in a bid to hide them from the authorities.
