Another one bites the dust: Councillor Paddy Bourke resigns from the Labour Party

Bourke was not immediately contactable this afternoon, but a spokesperson for Labour confirmed his departure from the party.

LABOUR COUNCILLOR PADDY Bourke, who represents Artane in north Dublin, has resigned from the party this afternoon.

Bourke, who was first elected to Dublin City Council in 2004, is a former lord mayor of Dublin and is the second Labour councillor to resign from the party in the last 24 hours following Killarney town councillor Seán O’Grady’s departure yesterday.

Bourke was not immediately contactable this afternoon, but a spokesperson for Labour confirmed his departure from the party.

”The Budget that we’ve brought forward is the Budget that will get us out of the bailout,” the spokesperson said.

“It’s unfortunate that some of the people who were elected under the Labour banner will not be with us on December 15 when we say goodbye to the Troika.”

Bourke’s page has already been removed from the Labour website.

On Twitter, his former Labour colleague, councillor Henry Upton, paid tribute to Bourke:
