Taking a load off-road? Land Rover has revealed the van version of the new Discovery

For businesses looking for a commercial vehicle with serious off-road capability.

LAND ROVER HAS launched a commercial version of its new Discovery, promising off-road prowess with on-road presence and loads of load-loading space.

The Land Rover Discovery Commercial comes with four-wheel drive, an automatic transmission, twin-speed transfer box, air suspension and a full-size spare wheel.

It is fitted solely with Discovery’s front row seating and the second and third row seating have been replaced with 1,856 litres of load-space. The loading area is accessed by a powered tailgate and measures 1,635mm long, 939mm high and 1,411mm wide.

The boot aperture is large enough to accept loads measuring up to 1000 x 735mm. It retains the passenger version’s maximum 3.5-tonne towing weight.

The Discovery Commercial comes with Land Rover’s Terrain Response systems which optimise the vehicle’s engine, gearbox, centre differential and chassis systems to match the demands of the terrain.

The optional Terrain Response 2 system enhances this even further by monitoring driving conditions and automatically selecting the driving modes ensuring loads are delivered whatever the terrain, whatever the weather.

It is available with either a 240hp four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel Ingenium engine, or a  258hp 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel, although Irish specifications have yet to be announced.

However, the vans do get a host of technology, convenience features and driver aids as standard.

Interestingly, the Discovery Commercial has privacy glass panels on the outside of the blanked-off body panels so that the Disco van is virtually indistinguishable from the SUV version.

Jaguar Land Rover UK Managing Director, Jeremy Hicks said:

Discovery Commercial has always been a key part of the Discovery line-up since the Discovery 1, but the latest version brings new levels of practicality, versatility and premium levels of comfort that showcase the vehicle’s hard-working DNA.
