A LANDSLIDE CRASHED into homes in a town northeast of Seattle yesterday, killing three people and injuring eight, authorities said.

People were heard crying out for help from underneath debris, CNN reports, saying that rescuers are trying to get to them through the wreckage.

At least six homes were destroyed in the town of Oso, Washington State, the sheriff’s office and other officials said.

“At total of eight people have been rescued at this point and are being treated at area hospitals, including a six-month-old baby,” Snohomish County spokeswoman Shari Ireton said on Twitter.

Reverse 911 calls have been going out to residents in the area warning them of the danger of flooding upstream from the slide, as well as the possibility of a downstream flooding should there be a catastrophic breach by the (Stillaguamish) river.

Rains have been heavy lately in the Cascade Mountains region, officials said.
