Motorcyclist dies after crash with car in Laois

The crash happened this evening at about 7.20pm.

A MOTORCYCLIST HAS died after his motorbike collided with a car in Co Laois this evening.

The crash happened at about 7.20pm on the R419, the old Portlaoise to Ballybrittas road.

The man, who was in his late 20s, was seriously injured in the crash and was taken to Portlaoise Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a 75-year-old woman, was also brought to hospital but her injuries are not life-threatening.

The crash happened in an area known as The Heath and the road has now been closed to allow for a garda examination of the scene.

Any witnesses are being asked to contact gardaí.
