Libyan military commander killed

Questions surround the death of Abdel Fattah Younis, who was killed yesterday.

LIBYAN REBEL MILITARY commander, Abdel Fatah Younis, has been killed.

His assassination was at the hands of pro-Gaddafi agents, the Guardian reports.

However, Associated Press notes that Younis was arrested by the rebels for questioning about suspicions his family still had ties to Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.

Rebel military spokesman Mohammed al-Rijali said Younis was taken from his operations room near the front to the main rebel stronghold, the eastern city of Benghazi, for interrogation.

The announcement of his death was made by Abdul Mustafa Jalil, president of the ruling National Transitional Council.

The Guardian reports that Younis was called back from the frontline for questioning on how the campaign was progressing.

It was suggested that he was murdered during his return by pro-Gaddafi forces.

However there are no clear details yet on his murder or who killed him.
