You can easily set reminders that only activate when you arrive home*

*Or any other location that you plan to travel to.

SETTING ALARMS AND reminders are something we set every day. All of them follow the same format, they’re all activate at a specific time.

For the most part, that’s all you need, but another useful option is to set reminders based on location.

Let’s say you know you have to go to the shop at some point this week, but you’ve no idea when you’ll actually arrive. It could be the next hour or day and it’s pointless making a timed reminder as you won’t know when exactly you’ll arrive.

So the next best thing is to set a location reminder, one that only activates when you arrive at a designated place.

For iPhone it’s a matter of going to the Reminders app. When you create one, you will see an option saying Remind me at a location. Activating this will let you enter in a specific location so when you arrive or leave, your reminder activates.

Create reminder iPhone

You may have to give it a moment or two to load up locations but when you select one, you can choose the map radius (minimum 100 metres) you want the reminder to activate.

On Android, the quickest method is to use Google Now. When you enter it, either by holding the home button down or swiping up from it, you can swipe left to right to bring up the options menu. Select reminders and choose to create a new one.

You will be asked whether you want to choose a time or specific location before activating it. This only applies to locations you are travelling to. You will have to use something different if you want to activate one when you’re leaving.

add reminder Google

That said, there are more than enough similar apps on Android which offer the same functionality. Apps like RemindersAny.Do and Google Keep offer similar options, Any.Do allowing you to set reminders based no whether you arrive or leave.
