'Date rape' serial killer facing 17 more charges of poisoning, rape and sexual assault

A MAN ACCUSED of murdering four men in east London has also been charged with poisoning, rape and sexual assault.

Stephen Port, from Barking in east London, was charged with four counts of murder last year but the new allegations relate to eight living complainants.

The 41-year-old denied the charges during a pre-trial hearing at the Old Bailey today, the BBC reports.

He allegedly met the four murder victims on gay dating websites between June 2014 and September 2015.

It is alleged he then brought them to his house on Cooke Street, where he is said to have poisoned them with GHB, a psychoactive drug.

All told, Port now faces 29 charges and will stand trial on 4 October.

He was originally charged with four counts of murder and four of administering a poison, but today at the Old Bailey prosecutors added a further six counts of administering a poison, seven charges of rape and four of sexual assault.

Port now also faces four alternative charges of manslaughter, which are alleged to have occurred between 2011 and 2015.

Some of the charges relate to the deaths of:

  • Fashion and design student Anthony Walgate, 23, from Barnet on 19 June 2014
  • British-Slovakian man Gabriel Kovari, 22, from Lewisham on 28 August 2014
  • Daniel Whitworth, 21, from Gravesend in Kent on 20 September 2014;
  • and Jack Taylor, 25, a forklift driver from Dagenham, on 14 September 2015.
