Pedestrian knocked down and killed by articulated lorry on M50

The M50 operators have urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.

A MAN IN his 20s has died this evening after he was struck by an articulated lorry on the M50 close to junction 4 Ballymun this evening.

Gardaí said that a pedestrian, late 20s, suffered his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at around 5.30pm.

His body was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown where a post mortem is to be arranged. No other injuries have been reported.

A garda spokesman said: “The M50 northbound remains closed at junction 4, Ballymun to facilitate garda forensic collision investigators. Diversions are in place.

“Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact them at Ballymun Garda station on 6664400, The Garda Confidential Line, 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.”

The motorway’s operators said that all lanes have been closed on the northbound side of the road at junction 4 Ballymun.

The M50 operators have urged motorists to avoid the area if possible.
