Lotto win 'saved me from emigration' says Kerry builder

The lucky winner, who had been planning to leave the country, picked up his ticket in a Spar in Tralee on Tuesday.

A BUILDER FROM Co Kerry says he’s no longer planning to leave the country to seek work, after winning half a million euro in the National Lottery.

The man, who wants to remain anonymous, bought a €6 Quickpick ticket in Tralee on Tuesday last.

He won the €500,000 in that night’s EuroMillions Plus draw.

“I checked the results after the draw, then I put the ticket back in my pocket and went into the town for a few pints” the Kerryman said, according to a statement from Lotto HQ.

“Things aren’t good if you are a builder in Kerry. I’d been planning to emigrate to make a better life for myself…. now I don’t need to.”

He bought the winning ticket in the Spar Express on Tralee’s Castlemaine Road.
