Woman dies after falling into the water in Lough Derg

The woman and a male companion were returning to their boat at the marina near Dromineer.

A WOMAN IN her sixties has died after falling into the water at Lough Derg near Dromineer early on Sunday morning.

The woman was with another man and both were returning to their boat near the marina when the woman fell.

The man attempted to rescue her but was unable to do so and he then contacted emergency services.

A coastguard helicopter R115 from Shannon and an RNLI lifeboat based at Dromineer were both tasked to the scene.

The woman was recovered by the RNLI team at 12.50 am.

She was then transferred to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick where she was pronounced dead.
