Man killed after being hit by a car in Galway in the early hours of this morning

The incident happened on the N66 in Loughrea Town.

A 28-YEAR-OLD pedestrian has been killed after he was hit by a car early this morning in Co Galway.

The incident happened just after 5.30am in Loughrea Town on the N66 Loughrea-Galway road.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene before his body was taken to Portnicula Hospital in Ballinasloe where a post-mortem is expected to be carried out.

A 19-year-old driver was the sole occupant of the car and gardaí say he was uninjured in the incident.

The road is currently closed for a garda examination of the scene with gardaí in Loughrea appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information.
