The summer show is a hit for British broadcaster ITV2.

SMASH HIT BRITISH reality TV show Love Island is being followed by over 100,000 Irish people on 3e.

Irish broadcaster TV3 is showing the programme on its entertainment-focused channel 3e and has revealed that the show clocked up an average viewership of 102,000 over the first week of the show.

The show is filmed on the Spanish island of Majorca and contestants can win a £50,000 prize by coupling up with another person on the show and being chosen by a public vote as the winning couple.

The season’s opening episode on 4 June was the most-watched programme ever on British channel ITV2, clocking up 2.9 million viewers on the night and 4.1 million consolidated viewers.

Consolidated viewers include those who watched the programme on recorded playback in the week after its broadcast.

ITV2 is available to some Irish customers but it is also being shown on 3e and the Irish broadcaster has released details of viewership figures for the show.

The opening episode of Love Island on 3e was watched by 105,000 viewers and the consolidated viewership increased that to 142,000.

The first seven episodes of Love Island on 3e averaged 102,000 viewers with that peaking on episode 7 when 134,000 people tuned in.

TV3 has also said that the show has been streamed on its online player 733,000 times.

Love Island won a Bafta TV Award last year and this year it has been extended from four weeks to eight weeks.

3e has also confirmed that it will be broadcasting Love Island Australia, which is narrated by Irish radio presenter Eoghan McDermott.
