Love Parade death tolls hits 21

Young woman dies of her injuries days after German festival disaster.

ANOTHER PERSON has died from injuries sustained in the Love Parade festival crush last weekend, bringing the death toll to 21. The 25-year-old woman died overnight after being injured in the stampede.

Thousands of people were involved in a crush at an entrance tunnel to the techno music festival on Saturday. Police had previously warned organisers that the venue was unsuitable for the level of crowds expected to attend the annual event.

More than 500 people were injured.

The festival’s organisers have posted a huge notice in Duisburg which reads: ”We are deeply distressed. We mourn with family members and our thoughts are with those who are currently under medical care. Since July 24 nothing remains at it was.”

Chancellor Angela Merkel will return from her summer break to attend a special memorial service in Duisburg this Saturday. She has already called for an intensive investigation into the tragedy.

The mayor of Duisburg, who has been heavily criticised in the wake of the disaster, has already said he will not attend the memorial. He said he didn’t want to provoke the families and victims with his presence.
