Luas services to 3Arena affected after pedestrian hit by tram

The man has been taken to hospital.

LUAS SERVICES BETWEEN Smithfield and the Point on the Red line have been affected this evening after a tram struck a pedestrian.

It is understood the pedestrian’s injuries are not serious, but the collision will affect Luas passengers from the Point as far as Smithfield.

It is understood the male pedestrian was hit by an inbound tram between the Abbey and Busaras stops around 4.50pm this afternoon, near the Irish Life Mall.

The man has been taken to hospital.

A Luas spokesperson said that trams are running from Tallaght and Saggart as far as Smithfield, but will terminate there. Tickets will be valid on Dublin Bus services.

Surprised it doesn’t happen more often to be honest. Headphones on, minding their own business, crossing the tracks.

Beano minding their own business? Rind me to never go into business with any of these people if they are so oblivious to their surroundings! Saw it this morning with ppl crossing the luas tracks and not even looking for an oncoming tram as on bore down on them. No excuse of earphones or smartphone, just morons. Darwin awards all round please!

By the sound of it, a smack of a tram would do him no harm. No valid reason for somebody to be hit by a tram at all.

Expect many more accidents like this in the coming years once the cross city extension opens. Dublin streets are to small and congested. The Cheaper option always suits the Irish government, even if it costs more long term.

Why expect more? It’s not exactly easy to miss a big feckin luas on luas tracks when you’re crossing the road. Not the government’s fault if people are idiots.

Ireland has no shortage of idiots. They will always disrupt the service for everyone else. The Luas should be underground in the city. You should go for a job at DCC.

They living dead just reel across the roads and expect all traffic to stop a bang of a car would do them no harm at all, though with the half trot they do be in they probably have to get to the methadone clinic in a hurry

Not always the third parties fault. Luas drove through o connell street some years ago despite the signal showing as a STOP and many people injured, some with severe injuries to this day. Since then trams have done the exact same thing on more than one occasion without a collision but im guessing a private company would prefer to keep this secret.

Every time there is an account on the Red Luas line why do they always stop the trams miles away. Can they not cut the electricity a stop before and a stop after the accidents area ??
