TRIBUTES ARE BEING paid to an 18-year-old Limerick man who died during his Leaving Cert exams.
Luke O’Brien May died on Sunday after suddenly becoming ill last week.
The teenager had attended Castleroy College and also had played for Bruff GAA, Bruff RFC and Aisling Annacotty AFC.
Luke’s two younger brothers Ross and Paul also attended the same school.
The Limerick Leader reports that Luke still had two Leaving Cert exams to sit when he became ill.
“He was a very popular young man and he was a very involved sportsman. Our deepest sympathies and condolences are with his family at this time,” his school’s principal told the paper.
“It is with deep regret and profound sadness that the Bruff GAA club has been informed of the untimely passing of one of our players, Luke O’ Brien May, after a brief illness,” Bruff GAA said in a statement on its Facebook page.
We express our sincere sympathies to Luke’s family and also to his teammates, friends, coaches and all who knew him, at this very sad and difficult time.
Aisling Annacotty AFC also shared some memories of Luke from his time playing with them:
Luke came to every session and match and no matter how long we played he wanted to stay for more with pleas to his mother or father who were always on the sideline to let him stay. Even though Luke did not play junior soccer with us this year, he is remembered fondly by his team mates.
Requiem mass for Luke O’Brien May is being held in Our Lady help of Christians Church today at 12pm.
