It is understood that gardaí are investigating a possible link between the crash and the discovery of a woman’s body in the same county.

A MAN HAS died after a crash between two cars and a truck on the M1 motorway in Co. Louth.

The crash happened at about 2pm this afternoon on the northbound side of the motorway between junction 14 (Ardee) and junction 15 (Castlebellingham).

Gardaí say that the male driver of the one of the cars was fatally injured in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and two passengers in the other car were also injured and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with their injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

Local media have reported that the deceased had been driving the wrong way up the northbound lane when the collision occurred.

It is understood that gardaí are investigating a potential link between the fatal crash and the discovery of a woman’s body in the Hackballscross area of the county.

Following the crash, a northbound section of the main Dublin to Belfast motorway has been closed to traffic between junctions 13 and 16.

AA Roadwatch are also advising motorists that there are delays on approach to the road closure.

Gardaí say that the road closure will remain in place for a number of hours and they are also asking any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
