ONE MAN HAS BEEN arrested after an incident at the public office in Castlebar Garda Station early this morning in which an object on fire was thrown at two gardaí.

No one was injured and a man in his mid-20s was arrested outside the station shortly afterwards.

He is being detained at Westport Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The incident occurred at around 4am and the station’s public office remains closed today.

A garda source told TheJournal.ie today that it is unclear what the object thrown at gardaí was and an investigation into the incident is underway.
