Man arrested after 'Cementgate'

41-year-old man arrested after truck is driven at the gates of Leinster House.

A 41-YEAR-OLD MAN has been arrested after a cement truck was driven at the Kildare Street gates of Leinster House shortly after 7am this morning.

The truck bore the words ‘Toxic Bank’. Gardaí and recovery crews are currently trying to remove it. The man is being questioned in Pearse St garda station, according to gardaí, where he is being questioned under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Some damage was caused to the front gate of Leinster House.

Children’s book writer David Maybury tweeted reports and pictures live from the scene.

Cement Mixer driven through gates of Leinster House – Gardaí trying to move it now.

The rescue operation is currently underway, but the closure of Kildare Street has caused traffic chaos in Dublin city centre.
