Man arrested after assaulting woman during carjacking

The man was chased for a short distance by gardaí after assaulting a woman.

A MAN HAS been arrested after a carjacking in Dublin city centre.

The man, in his 20s, was chased by gardaí after being spotted assaulting a woman and stealing a car near Mountjoy Square this afternoon.

A woman in her 30s, who was a passenger in the car at the time, went to hospital, after the man assaulted her and stole the car.

The car was observed by a passing Garda patrol and stopped following a brief pursuit at Sean McDermott St.

The man got out of the car and was apprehended and arrested by gardaí.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Store Street Garda Station.

The female passenger was taken to hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
