Man arrested in connection with murder of Chada brothers

Gardaí are appealing to owners of service stations and fast food outlets to review their CCTV footage to look for the car in which the brothers were found.

A MAN IN his 40s has been arrested by gardaí investigating the murders of two young brothers from Carlow.

The brothers, 10-year-old Eoghan Chada and 5-year-old Ruairi Chada, had been reported missing from their family home in Ballinkillen in Carlow on Sunday night along with their father Sanjeev Chada.

After a nationwide alert was issued, they were found dead at Cloneen, Rosbeg, at around 3.30pm on Monday.

A post-mortem on their bodies was completed yesterday evening, and gardaí said they were treating the boys’ deaths as murder.

This afternoon, gardaí said they had arrested a man earlier today in Castlebar in connection with the boys’ deaths. He is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Westport Garda Station.

Gardaí said they wish to thank members of the public who have contacted the incident room at Westport Garda Station in relation to the investigation to date and continue to appeal for information.

They are appealing to the business community, but particularly owners of service stations and fast food outlets, to review their CCTV footage. They are urging them to look for a dark green Ford Focus car with the registration number 06 CW 238 between the hours of 6.30pm on Sunday evening 28 July and 3.30pm on Monday 29 July.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
