Man arrested in connection with Cork fire that killed woman and young nephew

A 22-year-old man has been arrested by gardaí investing the house fire which killed a 25-year-old woman and her five-year-old nephew

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man in connection with the house fire in Cork city that killed a woman and her nephew in the early hours of this morning.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson, RTÉ reports.

A 25-year old woman, named as Helena O’Dwyer, and her five year old nephew Ryan O’Dwyer died in the blaze at a house in Mahon in the east of the city at around 3.15am this morning.

They were among eight people in the house on Nutley Avenue. Six others managed to escape and were taken to Cork University and Mercy University hospitals in Cork.

A garda technical team has been examining the scene this morning.
