Gardaí appeal for witnesses after man seriously assaulted in Athy last night

The 37-year-old man was seriously assaulted on Duke Street at around 8.30pm yesterday.

GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING an assault that left a man seriously injured in Athy, Kildare yesterday evening.

The 37-year-old man was seriously assaulted on Duke Street in the town at around 8.30pm yesterday.

He was taken to Naas General Hospital where his condition is described as serious, according to gardaí. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

A 30-year-old was arrested close to the scene and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Newbridge Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been on Duke Street around the time of the incident, or any motorists who may have dash cam footage, to contact Athy garda station on 059-8634210, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.
