A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been charged over a serious sexual assault on a woman with special needs in Dublin city last week.

Gardaí investigating the case arrested the man this morning and brought him to Kevin Street Garda station where he was charged.  He appeared before a district court hearing this evening.

The assault on the victim, aged in her mid-20s,  is believed to have taken place in the South Circular Road/Portobello area of Dublin city on Wednesday 12 June.

Gardaí say the woman was separated from the people she was with and brought into a property, where the attack took place.

A public appeal was issued earlier in the week for assistance in tracing the perpetrator.
