Investigation launched after man found dead at Donegal garda station

An Garda Siochana referred queries to the Ombudsman, saying this is normal procedure.

Updated 12.15pm

THE GARDA OMBUDSMAN is investigating the death of a man at a garda station in Donegal overnight.

The man in custody was found dead at Buncrana Garda station this morning at around 3am.

An Garda Siochana referred queries to the Ombudsman when contacted this morning, saying this is normal procedure in these situations.

The case was referred to the Ombudsman under section 102 of the Garda Siochana Act. It’s understood that the death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

A post mortem examination is due to take place at Letterkenny General Hospital later today.
