Man dies in single car collision in Wicklow

Gardaí are investigating the incident.

GARDAÍ IN BRAY are investigating after a man died in single car collision this morning.

A 58-year-old man was killed when the car in which he was travelling struck a ditch at Kilmullen Lane, Newtownmountkennedy.

The incident happened just before 7.50am.

Gardaí were alerted by ambulance control that a car had collided with a ditch and that a man was seriously injured.

There was no one else in the car at the time of the collision.

He was treated at scene, but he was pronounced dead by a local doctor.

His body was removed to the morgue at Loughlinstown Hospital. A post mortem will be carried out tomorrow morning.

The road was closed to facilitate a Garda Forensic Collision Examination, but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the collision or any person who came upon the scene to contact them at Bray Garda Station on 01 6665300, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
