Man dies after Smithfield stabbing

The man received multiple stab wounds this afternoon, before being pronounced dead.

A MAN IN his early 50s has died after being stabbed at a house in the centre of Dublin.

The man received multiple stab wounds to the neck and back at his home in Ormond Square, Smithfield this afternoon gardaí said.

Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics attended the scene and brought the man to hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene is being preserved for technical examinations and the Office of the State Pathologist has been called.

Gardaí are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything to contact the Bridewell Garda station on 01-666 7700.
