Father charged over murders of Eoghan and Ruairi Chada

The funeral of the two young brothers will take place in Carlow tomorrow.

Updated 9.35pm

THE FATHER OF two boys whose bodies were found in a car near Westport in Co Mayo earlier this week has been charged in connection with their murders.

Sanjeev Chada, 43, has appeared at a special sitting of Swinford District Court in Mayo tonight where he has been charged over the murders of Eoghan, 10, and Ruairi Chada, 5, RTÉ reports.

He was arrested in Castlebar yesterday and has been held at Westport Garda Station for questioning over the past 24 hours in connection with the deaths before being charged just before 8pm this evening.

The investigation was upgraded to a murder inquiry following a post-mortem on the bodies of Eoghan and Ruairi on Tuesday.

The bodies of the two boys were discovered in a crashed car at around 3.30pm on Monday. They had been reported missing from their family home in Ballinkillen in Carlow on Sunday night along with their father.

The funeral of the two boys will take place tomorrow afternoon in St Lazarian’s Church in Ballinkillen. The brothers will be buried in the adjoining cemetery.

The family has requested that the house be strictly private.
