Man taken to hospital in critical condition after being found with serious head injuries in Ennis

The man is said to be a ‘critical condition.’

GARDAÍ IN ENNIS have launched an investigation after a man was discovered with serious head injuries on the outskirts of the town in the early hours of the morning.

Two scenes were sealed off after Gardaí and National Ambulance Service paramedics responded to reports that a person had been found injured and unconscious at the entrance to the Aughanteeroe housing estate on the Gort Road.

The alarm was raised at around 1.30am and a man, believed to be in his early 60s, was transported to University Hospital Limerick with what are understood to be a serious head injuries. The man is said to be a ‘critical condition.’

The scenes are within 50 metres of each other and were cordoned off pending completion of a technical examination this morning. One location, believed to be where the injured person was found, is at the entrance to the estate. Blood could be seen on the ground at that scene.

The second area of interest is nearby on what was the old Gort Road.

Both scenes were cleared once the technical examination was completed this morning while Gardaí continue to canvas local properties in an effort to harvest CCTV footage or eye witness information about the incident.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: “Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an injured person in the vicinity of Gort Road, Ennis in the early hours of this morning. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Gardaí say they are investigating all of the circumstances of the incident including whether foul play is a factor.

Gardaí are  appealing to anyone who may have been in Gort Road area near the entrance to Aughanteeroe around the time of the incident to contact them. Investigating officers are particularly keen to speak to any motorists, taxi drivers or anyone who may have CCTV or dash cam footage that might assist them with their inquiries.
