Man in his 70s dies in Westmeath crash

The collision happened at about 3.30pm today.

A MAN IN his 70s has died in a road crash in Co Westmeath.

Gardaí are investigating the fatal collision which occurred on the Mullingar to Longford Road at Ballinalack, Co Westmeath earlier today.

The collision between two cars occurred at approximately 3.30pm.

The driver of one of the cars was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been removed to the mortuary at Mullingar Hospital.

His female passenger and two people from the second car received minor injuries and have been taken to Mullingar Hospital for treatment.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda forensic collision investigators, and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Mullingar Garda Station on 044 9384000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
