Man dies after getting caught in floods on Achill Island

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the incident.

AN 82-YEAR-OLD man has died after getting caught in floods on Achill Island in Co Mayo last night.

The car he was driving entered flood water and left the road at Dugort at around 10pm.

The body of the man was taken to Mayo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

This stretch of road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to contact Westport Garda Station on 098 50230, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
