Man shot dead outside The Huntsman pub in Gormanston, county Meath

Initial reports indicate the shooting happened in the car park of The Huntsman pub.

A MAN IN his 30s has died in a shooting incident in Gormanston, county Meath this afternoon.

The incident occurred in the car park of The Huntsman pub at about 2:30pm this afternoon.

TheJournal.ie understands that the victim, from Louth, has links to dissident republican activity.

Gardaí arriving on the scene shortly after the shooting arrested a number of men, who are being detained under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at various garda stations in north Dublin.

Gardaí say they are investigating all of the circumstances surround the incident and the scene is being preserved pending a full forensic and technical examination.

It is understood that there was an armed support unit at the scene shortly after the incident.

An incident room has been set up at Laytown Garda Station and an appeal for witnesses has been issued.
